JNC's Residential Shingle Roof Replacement Process...

The Shingle Roof Replacement Process...

Step 1: Remove your existing roofing system (shingles, felt, nails, and drip edge) down to the decking. Roof decking is the wood panels that serve as the bottom-most layer of your roof.

Step 2: We install Ice & Water into all penetrations, valleys, roof flashing, and chimneys. This step is important because it ensures that shingle nails will be completely sealed, and it protects areas that would otherwise be more susceptible to leaks than the rest of the roof.

Step 3: Install synthetic roofing felt using 1 inch tab nails. Many contractors will use staples in this step because it’s faster and slightly cheaper, but doing so actually voids the manufacturer’s warranty on your new roof.

Step 4: Install valley metal. The use of both Ice & water *and* valley metal is unique to JNC Roofing. Most contractors will use only one or the other, but we like to take every precaution to protect your roof from leaks down the road.

Step 5: Drip edge is installed around the perimeter of the roof. Drip edge is a piece of 2×2 metal used to keep water out of the 1×2 inch fascia to prevent rotting

Step 6: Starter strip is installed around the perimeter of the roof. Starter strip is an asphalt-based shingle designed to create a waterproof seal around the eve and rake edges of the roof.

Step 7: Install new shingles using six 1 1/4′ coil nails per shingle. (If your ceiling is exposed in any areas, we’ll use 3/4′ nails so they don’t penetrate your ceiling)

Step 8: We will continue cleaning up debris around your home throughout the day, making sure not to damage any of your landscaping

Step 9: Our crew will make a final sweep with magnets to make sure there are no nails lingering around your property for the safety of you and your family.

Step 10: And of course, no JNC Roofing job is complete until Chris conducts his final inspection!
